City of Avondale, Arizona

WT Group Accessibility staff hit the ground running for the City of Avondale, Arizona in early 2023 to assist the City in the development of an ADA Transition Plan. As a previous client, we had the unique opportunity to see parks that we audited many years ago. The Department was recently accredited by the NRPA Commission for Accreditation of Park and Recreation Agencies (CAPRA), but learned they needed some work towards the development of a Transition Plan. This is where we came in.

Weather and climate play a factor for all of our clients in terms of maintenance and Avondale is no exception. For example, a crushed granite trail in Avondale is going to look a lot different from a trail made of the same surface in Seattle, WA because of the rain and sun. While Avondale may have less frequency in ensuring wash out isn’t an issue on their trails, the time they may spend ensuring that signage isn’t faded from the sun or plants aren’t overgrowing in the accessible route may be greater.

Our Avondale project is set to wrap up late this year. Staff have prioritized ensuring accessibly and equal opportunity for their community and we are honored to assist them in achieving inclusivity.
